This is Dirk Amrein's personal webpage. Dirk Amrein was born in Degerfelden, Germany. 
He studied in Basel, Cologne, and London with Denis Wick and Michel Becquet. His extended master studies include those with Joseph Alessi , Branimir Slokar and Malte Burba. He has played in major orchestras under conductors such as Claudio Abbado , Riccardo Chailly , Sir Neville Marinner , Franz Welser Möst , András Schiff , Eliah Inbal , Pierre Boulez and Jürg Henneberger.
As a specialist for contemporary music he has worked together with some of the most influential composers of our time such as Karl Heinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Pierre Boulez, Luciano Berio, Wolfgang Rihm , Helmut Lachenmann ,Werner Heider , Jürg Wyttenbach , Peter Eötvös, Georg Friedrich Haas , Olga Neuwirth, and George Benjamin.
He has played countless first creations and recordings. As a crossover artist he has worked with Swiss Jazz Orchestra , Jim McNeely , George Gruntz ,Bert Joris ,Joe Haider , Pepe Lienhard , Steamboat Switzerland , Gustav , Christoph Baumann Large Orchestra..... Touring extensively in Europe, Dirk has also performed in China, the United States, Russia, Australia and Mexico. He started a new collaboration with Wolfgang Froese , which they call Interactive Creative Project for Art. It features free improvisations of music and various art forms, such as glass and metal, in tandem. Another new artistic and musical partnership with Marc Yeats, composer and painter, will bring new ways of perceiving artistic experience. The duo Dirk Amrein and Jürg Henneberger will tour Europe, Malaysia, Singapore ,Mexico,and United States in 2009. Swiss born Jürg Henneberger is an internationally acclaimed conductor, pianist, and accompanist, as well as collaborator of contemporary music, opera, classical and chamber music.
He is an instructor of chamber music, score playing, and interpretation of contemporary music since 1988 at Basler Musikhochschule. Together as musicians as well as actors, they have performed in contemporary music theatricals such as "Lost Highway" by David Lynch, produced by Olga Neuwirth, "Der Idiot" by Johannes Harneit, " In Vain" by Georg Friedrich Haas, "Das Biest des Monsier Racine" from Stefan Hertel and "Punch and Judy" from Harrison Birtwistle. Both Dirk and Jürg have worked closely together on various musical collaborations for over sixteen years, giving the audience a very experienced and complementary performance which can only be attained through the highest of performance standards, synergistic energy, and ideals.
